Joanne Kwong is an attorney and former Barnard College communications executive, and the new president of Pearl River Mart. She is the daughter-in-law of Pearl River founders, Ming Yi Chen and Ching Yeh Chen.
The Legendary Pearl River Mart
Joanne is planning to rebrand this legendary Chinese department store, known as the first of its kind in the United States. She will highlight Asian & Asian-American culture by dedicating space to a rotating showcase of designers and artists, informing shoppers of the traditions associated with products on display, and hosting demonstrations and other events in the store. Recently, the store partnered with luxury fashion brand Opening Ceremony to launch its exclusive Lunar New Year collection. Pearl River Mart also recently debuted a new ecommerce platform intended to reach a wider group of customers.
