30年，

像捧起的一掬水

从指间流走

30 years,

Like a handful of water

Slip away from between my fingers.

那天，就因为你穿一件红衬衫

在校园里，被一头水牛追赶

That day on campus, you wore a red shirt for me,

But were chased after by a crazy buffalo

后来，你说你嫁给了山姆大叔。

再后来，开了一家屠宰场

专门杀牛。

And later again, you set up a slaughter house

Professionally killing cattle.

你拖着两袋高过自己头的书

走过罗湖桥。

我送你到国境线，

你说你要拿个博士。

Dragging behind you two bags of books higher above your head

You were marching towards Luohu Bridge.

I saw you off at the border line,

Hearing you say,

You would obtain a Ph D.

如今你已是博士，

又庆幸自己

不需要去看医生。

Now you ARE a doctor,

And feel happy that

You don’t have to see a doctor.

30年前，你爷爷从大别山

来五羊城看你，

如今，你也成了爷爷。

30 years ago, Grandpa came to see you in City of Rams

就快30年了！

黄婆已仙逝

洞也早已填满。

It’ll soon be 30 years!

Grandma Huang has passed away,

So is filled up the cavity.

哪里是白鹅潭？

哪条路是教育南？

哪里还有煲仔饭？

Where on earth is White Swan Pond?

Which way is South Road of Education?

And where again can I get a bowl of potted rice?

China is assimilating each of China Towns,

Yet San Francisco is where Canto’s moving on

你说，“女儿要去中国留学了，

名字跟你一样，也叫苏珊。”

You say, “Daughter will be an overseas student to China,

And her name is also called Susan.”

你说，有一天，

自己也会像
