今天,世新写邮件过来,叫我看看一匹织锦的4张图片。
说卖家开了个价,问我这个价格是否合适。
我是这样回复的:
You should have handled the piece in person.
My opinion:
1,picture ks4 shows that only two colors were used and poorly waved using the most basic and earliest technique, so it did not show the prestige of royal's YunJin brocade quality, not mention there is a better waving technique to get same front pattern without such a messy background;
2, picture ks3 shows that the pattern of butterflies and lotus flowers were not as intricate with rich detail as that YunJin piece you bought from the auction last year. If only look at the picture 3, you can not tell it has pattern characteristics of late Qing, neither the insect nor the flower;
You should have seen this pair of plates and a robe, with so much detail on a butterfly:

3, picture ks2 shows a signature. However it is not same as those on your piece. The Chinese characters look fat with a modern flavor;
, the asking price shows the owner is expecting a big price or purchased at a very high cost.
Based on above analysis, I would say I won't spend that amount of money on a piece like this.
I suspect that it might be a modern reproduction piece.
When people in waving industry saw the crazy prices on auctions, they will try best to make fakes.
Once you handle it, you should have a feeling if it is genuine and old enough, if it was made of silk.
Good luck
