古希腊有个神话传说。俊美的青年男子Narcissus 对池塘里自己的倒影一见钟情，爱的难以自拔，在池塘边痴迷于自己的倒影不肯离去，最终掉进池塘淹死了。死后变成了花，这种花就叫Narcissus.，是春天里最早开的花。见图。这种花我也种过，但花期太短，几天就没了，不象玫瑰，可以四季常开。
从Narcissus一名衍生的narcissism 被医学界定义为一种人格缺陷，又名自恋症。主要特征如下：
