How to troubleshoot Caterpillar 320C excavator alternator noise and excessive temperature issues

 A. Possible causes and troubleshooting methods are as follows. 

 (1) The transmission belt of the alternator is worn or faulty. Install new alternator drive belt.  

(2) The alternator drive pulley is loose. Check the key holding the pulley in the pulley groove. If the groove is worn, install a new pulley. Tighten the pulley according to the technical specifications. 

 (3) The transmission belt and transmission pulley of the AC engine are not aligned. Align the drive belt with the drive pulley. 

 (4) Alternator bearings are worn. Install new bearings on the alternator. 

 (5) The armature rotor shaft is bent. Replace the rotor shaft. (6) The alternator has insufficient rectification. Replace diode assembly.

B. Possible causes and troubleshooting methods are as follows. 

 (1) Intake system or exhaust system damping. Clear damping. 

 (2) Injection timing error. Adjust injection timing. 

 (3) The air intake system is leaking. Check the air intake system pressure and find and repair air leaks.

  (4) The exhaust system is leaking. Locate and repair leaks in your exhaust system.
