What’s the difference between OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus and Autel MaxiIM IM508S? Which one is better to use? In this post, we will compare them in these aspects incl. IMMO, MOTO IMMO, diagnostics, service, odometer, airbag reset, ECU flasher and more.

1.IMMO Comparison

The structure menu is a little bit different. Both have the search option and the categorization between region of the world (Europe, America, Asia and China).

X300 DP Plus has PINCODE and Remote options while Autel IM508S doesn’t have.

IM508S has History option to check the previous operation, but X300 DP Plus doesn’t have.

• America car:

X300 DP Plus put Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep in the same catalogue, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury in the same catalogue, while Autel shows them alone. There are no Chevrolet and Hummer in OBDSTAR menu, they are under GM brand, and Autel tablet shows GM on the menu.

• European car:

i.e. SMART

Both support the same car models incl. BR450, 451, 452, 453, and 454.

They can read key number and add keys.

i.e. Volvo

X300 DP Plus supports FOBIK and proximity keys. IM508S support semi-smart key and smart key.

Both support V40 2012-2018.

2.MOTO IMMO Comparison

OBDSTAR has MOTO IMMO function while Autel doesn’t have.

3.Diagnostic Comparison

The name is different.

OBDSTAR name it as Petrol Diag and Autel is diagnostics.

i.e. BMW

Both support the same BMW series incl. 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/I/X/Z series.

They support the most 5 series models, but X300 DP Plus doesn’t support G30/31/38 & F90, and IM508S doesn’t support E28 and E34.

The 5 series drive options are also different.

4.Service Comparison

Autel MaxiIM IM508II supports more special functions than X300 DP Plus key programmer.

5.Universal Key Comparison

IM508S has a universal key function that can perform universal key generation, key info detection, button adjustment, and special function, and OBDSTAR supports this function in Programmer.

6.Programmer Comparison

OBDSTAR has this function in EEPROM/PIC option.

The operation path are different. OBDSTAR only has EEPROM option to choose while Autel has more options.

Autel also has write key via dump in programmer function. OBDSTAR has a RFID option on the menu, you can read only unlock the keys with the connection diagram.

7.Odometer Comparison

OBDSTAR supports odometer correction while IM508S cannot.

8.Airbag Reset Comparison

OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus update airbag reset function, it can work with OBDSTAR P004 Adapter and Jumper to do airbag reset for various vehicles.

9.ECU Flasher Comparion

OBDSTAR has a ECU Flasher option to read IMMO data/EEPROM/FLASH, and VW ECM IMMO data decryption. Autel doesn’t support.

10.Price

X300 DP Plus is more expensive than IM508S.

Both support Two Years Free Update Online. After that, IM508S One Year Update Service costs 304 EUR per year while X300 DP Plus update cost is 291 EUR per year.

So, which one is better?

Both are good devices. It’s hard to say which one is better. It depends on your budget and actual needs. If you have enough budget, recommend buying both.

Autel IM508S has an internal storage of 64 GB. Autel app uses 31GB, system 9GB, on my device 66% is used (41, 94 GB with all apps). On micro SD Slot is free.

I use more time OBDSTAR than Autel, but i also use diagnostic functions from Autel, key programming from Autel it’s more guided for beginners. Autel can also do Benz over OBDSTAR, but I use a dedicated tool for Benz. Autel can also do some MQB NEC with extra Adapters and programmer.
