Education 教育

Since our reopening in November 2008, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s education department has welcomed thousands of students, teachers and families to experience our new exhibits and programming. Our educational experiences explore newly restored areas of the ship, recently acquired artifacts, aircraft and interactive exhibits that investigate space, flight, water, and life at sea aboard Intrepid by encouraging visitors to stop, think and do.

Our Museum’s education professionals are experienced and knowledgeable in providing integrated curriculum to a diverse student and adult population. Created in alignment with New York State and national standards, Intrepid's student and teacher programming enhances literacy, encourages scientific investigation, develops mathematical analysis skills, promotes making positive choices and problem solving, and immerses students and teachers in hands-on learning about history and science.  师生们可以学到动手学习历史与科学知识。

Camp Intrepid 2010

We can think of no better place to learn about buoyancy, life on the Hudson River, naval partnerships with NASA and the history of aviation from its beginnings to the future of the space program. Intrepid campers keep ship-shape by challenging themselves in a variety of outdoor activities, such as, our "Boot Camp", which includes tug-of-war, relay races, knot tying and an obstacle course. Campers enjoy the fresh air and sunshine exploring the newly renovated Pier and Flight Deck.

Camp G.O.A.L.S.

免费夏季夏令营 － 专为在2010秋季将上7和8年级的女生提供。训练数学和科学。

Camp G.O.A.L.S. is a FREE four week summer program for girls entering 7th and 8th grades in the fall of 2010. Generously supported by the Motorola Foundation accepted campers, from New York City Title I Schools, build proficiency in math and science drawing on resources from Intrepid exhibits, visit partner institutions, and meet female scientists and professionals in the fields of Aviation, Inventions/Engineering, Water and Space/Astronomy.”

SOSI – School’s Out, Ship’s In 6-13 year olds

The Intrepid has a fun-filled solution for kids during school holidays and vacations throughout the year from 9a.m. – 5p.m. Now when School’s Out, the Ship’s In at SOSI, the Intrepid Museum’s unique full-day drop-off program giving students the opportunity to explore, discover and learn about sea, air and space in a whole new way.

Intrepid Investigators

Make new friends, tour special parts of the ship and take home projects specially crafted by you! Join us on the 3rd Saturday of each month for programs tailored to enhance family discovery. Tour behind-the-scenes areas of the ship, learn about history and science, and create take-home projects. Topics include pirate-themed treasure hunts, Hudson River marine and plant life, and space exploration. Project fee per child applies. Advance registration for children ages 6-11 is required.

Weekend Demonstrations

Free with admission, themes of sea, air, space and life at sea incorporate hands-on activities and lessons to enhance the visitor experience. Demonstrations occur each weekend at 12pm, 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Topics include airplane nose art, code breaking and buoyancy.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is located on the West side of Manhattan on Pier 86, 12th Ave. & 46th Street. It is easily accessible from all points in the New York City Metro area.

Take cross-town buses west. M34 (34th Sts), M42 (42nd St.) or M-50 (49th St.) to 12th Ave. and Hudson River. Intrepid is a short walk North from the M34 and M42. The M50 drops off immediately in front of the Intrepid.

Directions by NYC Metro Subway 乘地铁 

Take the A, C, E, N, Q, R, S, W, 1, 2, 3, 7, or 9 train to 42nd St., then walk or take the M-42 West Bus to Hudson River (12th Ave). Walk North to Intrepid

NJ TRANSIT 乘新洲火车

Metro-North Railroad's service to Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, puts you in the center of it all. From Grand Central Terminal take the westbound M42 (Pier) (located outside the Vanderbilt Hall entrance of Grand Central Terminal, on 42nd Street between Park and Vanderbilt Avenues,) to Twelfth Avenue (the last stop) and walk north to 46th Street. Directions from Water 从水上去

NY Waterway operates a ferry from Weehawken, NJ at Port Imperial Ferry Terminal and at Lincoln Harbor located at the Sheraton Suites on Harbor Blvd. in Weehawken, NJ. In just 8 minutes, the ferry takes you across the Hudson River to 39th and 12th Avenue, walking distance from the Intrepid. Parking is conveniently available at the lot adjacent to Port Imperial Ferry Terminal. NY Waterway Ferry departs every 10-16 minutes during peak hours.

From Newark International Airport, NJ Take New Jersey Turnpike North to Lincoln tunnel, exit to 42nd Street. Turn left (westbound) to 12th Avenue. Turn right on 12th avenue (northbound) to 49th Street. Make U-turn around barriers heading south to 46th Street and 12th Avenue.

From LaGuardia Airport, NY Take Grand Central East (toward Long Island) to Long Island Expressway (westbound) to New York City/Midtown Tunnel (westbound). Exit tunnel toward 42nd Street. Turn left on 42nd Street (westbound), and follow 42nd Street across town to 12th Avenue Turn right on 12th Avenue (northbound) to 49th Street. Make U-turn around barriers heading south to 46th Street and 12th Avenue.

From Kennedy Airport, NY Take Van Wyck Expressway north to Long Island Expressway to New York City/Midtown Tunnel (westbound). Exit tunnel to the right, northbound to 42nd Street. Turn left on 42nd Street (westbound) and follow 42nd Street across town to 12th Avenue. Turn right on 12th Avenue (northbound) to 49th Street. Make U-turn around barriers heading south to 46th Street and 12th Avenue. 

From Queens and Long Island Follow directions from Kennedy or LaGuardia airport. 

From Bronx Take Cross Bronx Expressway (westbound) to Henry Hudson Parkway (southbound). Henry Hudson Parkway becomes 12th Avenue. Follow 12th Avenue until 46th Street. Intrepid Museum is on the right.

From Points North Take Saw Mill River Parkway south to Henry Hudson Parkway (southbound). Henry Hudson Parkway becomes 12th Avenue. Follow 12th Avenue until 46th Street. Intrepid Museum is on the right.

From Northern New Jersey Take George Washington Bridge to Henry Hudson Parkway (southbound). Henry Hudson Parkway becomes 12th Avenue. Follow 12th Avenue until 46th Street. Intrepid Museum is on the right.

From Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey Take New Jersey Turnpike north toward Newark International Airport. Follow directions above from Newark Airport.
